A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Neurothemis terminata terminata
IDd before as Neurothemis ramburii (Kaup in Brauer, 1866), the Red Percher or Ramburi Red Parasol, ssp ramburii for Philippines. Neurothemis Brauer, 1867, is a genus of dragonflies in the family Libellulidae, and most species are red in color. Neurothemis terminata shares the same habitat with Neurothemis ramburii. Both are similar in size and same color red. Males can be distinguished by their wings. They are separated by the small hyaline area at the wing tips. N.terminata has white tips to the wings that do not pass the pterostigma. N.ramburii has white tips that can extend past the red pterostigma. Neurothemis terminata is a widespread and often common species which can occur in man-made habitats. Assessed as Least Concern for these reasons. Neurothemis terminata terminata Ris, 1911, is the subspecies occurring in the Philippines.
