Cypripedium acaule
The pink lady's slipper (AKA moccasin flower) has a large, showy wildflower belonging to the orchid family. It has two opposite basal leaves with conspicuous parallel veins and a large flower at the end of an erect stalk.
Spotted near Dark Hollow Falls in Shenandoah National Park, VA. It is usually found in pine forests, where it can be seen in large colonies, but it also grows in deciduous woods.
