Black-backed Jackal

Description:

This is a jackal cub, spotted in the Serengeti at dawn, near an ant or termite mound. The adults were nearby but left the scene immediately; the cub stayed behind and the adults made no attempt to move it.

Habitat:

A very widespread predator, the black-backed jackal is seen from beaches to grassland to scrub forest almost all over sub-Saharan Africa excluding West Africa.
