Large Crane Fly

Tipula furca

Description:

Large crane fly with very long legs. Grayish thorax. Brown abdomen with a central yellow lateral line. Wings patterned dark and whitish. Crane flies are often called Mosquito Hawks or "Skeeter Eaters", however, the adults do not prey on other insects. Many do not eat at all as adults. Some feed on nectar from flowers.

Habitat:

Suburban. Attracted to a porch light at night.
