Discoglossus sardus (Tschudi, 1837)
The Sardinian Discoglossus (Discoglossus sardus) is an amphibian anuran family Alytidae. The Sardinian Discoglossus is a toad from the slender body, size between 7-8 cm, the body is smaller than the more common emerald toad (Bufo viridis) and the Balearic emerald toad (Bufo balearicus). Sardinian Discoglossus head is triangular, short, wide and almost indistinct from the trunk. His eyes are bulging with heart-shaped pupil. The skin is smooth and unctuous, characterized by circular dots and speckles shaves. The male has the expansions fleshy finger back these calluses wedding during the breeding season, and is devoid of vocal sacs. Like the emerald toad, it is distinguished by its heart-shaped pupil (the emerald toad the pupil is horizontal) and the hind legs shorter.
The Sardinian Discoglossus inhabits rivers, streams, ponds, temporary ponds, swamps, plains and hills. More rare in the mountains, but it can be found up to 1300 m above sea level.
