Woodland Strawberry

Fragaria vesca

Description:

The wild or woodland or alpine strawberry is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the rose family. It sports trifoliate dark-green leaves, with toothed margins, and produces a hairy, 10 to 15 cm tall stem bearing five to eleven delicate, white with yellow center, flowers. The fruit, red berries, are edible,

Habitat:

Here seen in rather rural or semi-urban setting: in a very calm small rural town not too far away from Geneva, in its big wooded park with large meadow. The town and the park are close to slopes of Jura and coasts of lake Leman (Geneva).

Notes:

Fruits begins to ripen beginning of summer and are very much appreciated - much tastier than currently cultivated hybrids. They don't store well, and need to be consumed quickly.

I fully agree with your notes Zlatan. Once you've tasted one you never want to eat strawberries from a supermarket ever again :-)
Wash carefully because of risks of fox-transmitted echinococcosis.
Have you tried growing the variety "Mara des bois", which is close in taste?
