Heavy Jumper

Hyllus diardi

Description:

One of my most favorite spiders.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

Jumping spiders are usually very small, the size of your little finger nail. Hyllus D is about ¾” long, one of the worlds largest jumpers, but still it retains its cuteness. They are usually difficult to photograph, either they are very shy and other times they are too inquisitive and jump onto the lens. Many times I have had to rescue hyllus D from the top of my head or running up my arm. They are not aggressive and safe to handle (so far). Difficult to find authentic identification. I thought it might be hyllus giganteus, but the only good reference drawing indicated diardi. Hope you enjoy this series from my collection.

Mark - it is pretty cool here at the moment. In fact, I have just put a pair of socks on. It's 24C on my room thermometer.
