Saw this and many like her/him this morning but this little cutie was particularly bold and unphased by my presence. Malibu beach off Malibu Lagoon.

Liam is correct.In Britain and Thailand where I now live it is known as Grey Plover.
A little bit confusing as the black belly is only seen when a male is in breeding plumage.Nice shots.Probably a first winter bird.

In the Americas, P. squatarola is known as the Black-bellied Plover. Elsewhere it is called the "Grey Plover".
Lipase, thanks for using my spotting as a reference. :)
Notice the difference in head and bill size. Also, Sanderling has a clean chest, Black-bellied Plover has a gray chest.
