A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Marmota flaviventris
This guy was found napping on a large rock near where I camped on a recent backpacking trip. After seeing this individual, I looked around and noticed several other marmots taking naps on other rocks in the area. They are very cute critters. Though they have a habit of getting into and destroying your gear if you are not careful. They are attracted not only to foodstuff but also the salt from sweat that can be in your clothing or hats. The last time I backpacked in the area they had stolen my hat from my campsite and when I found it, the brim was torn to pieces. They are cute to look at though so I didn't feel too bad :)
