Zephyr eyed silkmoth

Automeris zephyria

Description:

A medium moth of the Saturniidae family. I found it under lights in the morning. When disturbed it flashed its eyespots, which were covered before. It resembles an io moth, except that the front wings are a different color and have a white stripe.

Habitat:

It came to lights at night. I do not know where it came from. It could be from the cottonwood forest along the river nearby.

Notes:

I have never seen another moth in this area that even remotely resembles this. It was found in the middle of June.
