Unknown Spotting

Description:

A, off-white, seemingly soft (I didn't touch them) pod with a black/brown bulge on top. All on top of a slimy brown many-pointed star-like base, reminiscent of a banana peel, probably once a covering for the soft while pod.

Habitat:

Natchez Trace State Park, Tennessee, amidst dead foliage and fallen trees.

Notes:

Reminds me of Swamp Fungal Pods from the Elder Scrolls V, which is the reason they caught my eye. Sorry about the picture quality. I only have my phone for a camera. But at least it logged my location accurately! This is my first posting, by the way.
