Karen, I remember that Harry Potter scene, poor bug. Two years ago I was at an eco lodge in Honduras and had a young tailless whip scorpion inside the room. Then when my wife opened the door she told me a friend was there. A large scorpion was on the floor between the wooden door and the screen door, so I got my camera and got a picture. Now that's my kind of room:-)

I saw this post yesterday, and I love these critters so much that I'm back again for another peek! These are truly amazing creatures, and the worst they can do is to bestow a sharp pinch with those thorny "grabbers". They were featured in a Harry Potter movie (forget which episode) when the kids were being taught the torture spell. Of course they made these small creatures about 100x bigger. and nastier than they really are.

I want one. :)

Its body was about an inch, but if you measure it with all the legs, probably 6-8 inches across. That's one of its long thin antennae going off from the right second leg. The antenna is really long, maybe 6 inches each.

How big is this? And it looks like there is another leg (?) coming out of the root of the 2nd front leg on the right. I know it's harmless, but if this one comes out of a box and disappear in my house, I will be scared to death to live there....

Tailless Whipscorpion. Very very cool creatures. Basically harmless, although I think it can give a pinch with those claw-like "grabbers" in the front. ( I forget the technical term)

Great pictures!! I saw one once in a box I shipped and they are fast and scary I could not get a good picture it was too fast. Thanks for sharing now I know how it looked.

They are scary looking and pretty big, but from what I hear they're harmless.
But I still don't want to touch one:-)

Very scary looking. I have never seen this one before. It looks like came out from ancient time.
