Parasitic Plant?

Description:

These yellow berry-like balls were attached in small groups on several small branches of the "Cuajilote" (the Tree with Green Flowers) (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/175...). Those that had dried up and fallen to the ground left small holes in the branches. It seems like these are some kind of MistleToe-like parasite (or symbiont) that derives its nutrients from the tree, since it has no leaves of its own.

Habitat:

Growing on a Cuajilote tree in a cleared field along the highway. Kilometer 10, Carretera Veracruz-Cordoba after the junction from Minatitlán.
