Black Skimmer

Rynchops niger

Habitat:

Marsh

Notes:

This unusual seabird is related to the gulls and terns. It skims across the water with its oddly-shaped bill to catch fish. It was a magnificent sight to see as these birds flew in lines across the water. They were sharing a rookery with several tern species. Lifer!
