Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

Sphyrapicus varius

Description:

This is a male due to the presence of the red throat. This beautiful sapsucker was pecking on a conifer making a very high pitched sound I didn't expect to come from a woodpecker.

Habitat:

Coniferous forest adjacent to deciduous woodlands and fields.
