Bordered Mantis

Stagmomantis limbata

Description:

Medium-sized mantis of about 6cm from head to tip of the abdomen; uniformly green with a broad abdomen and wings that don't quite cover its entire length. The venation of the wings combined with the green colour give it a leaf-like appearance.

Habitat:

Semi-arid region in El Cimatario nature park, just outside Queretaro.

Nice find! This reminds me a lot of Stagmomantis limbata with that blue upper lip. This is a female. I believe they do have a range in Mexico but I am unsure if there are other Stagmomantis species of similar appearance in your area. http://bugguide.net/node/view/149885
