Lyssomanes Jumping Spider (male)

Lyssomanes cf. jemineus

Description:

This fun spider looks like it had boxing gloves on. Black abdomen, red head, white legs with black stripes and boxing gloves !! David Hill: "I think 'Lyssomanes cf. jemineus' is a good classification for now from the photographs. The male in the photographs has dark setae on the distal tibia of legs II-IV, something I don't see with the specimen, but well within the range of possible variation. Someone more familiar with other species in the genus might be comfortable calling this one 'Lyssomanes jemineus'. It is a large project, but someone should publish a revision of the genus based on the study of both specimens and live spiders in the field. Too many species in the genus are known from little more than the male pedipalp of a single type specimen, and in truth no one has studied the extent of intraspecific variation in the structure of pedipalps."

Habitat:

Seen in the finca I was staying at in Ometepe Island

Yes pamsai, Lyssomanes is a jumping spider genus. I bet that's what this is, because no other salticid even remotely resembles it.

Thanks machi... so is it a Jumping Spider then?

My guess is that this is a male from the Lyssomanes genus. It looks very similar to the males of Magnolia Green Jumpers that I find in Florida
