Awesome spotting! I've heard that they only release poison when they feel threatened/are handled roughly, etc. - I'm guessing that must be true assuming your guide was still standing after this?!

the man holding it was our guide in Costa Rica, yes the frog is poisonous, but I think because he has held so many that he has built up a bit of immunity maybe.
