Marsh Periwinkle

Littoraria irrorata

Description:

A periwinkle with a long snout. They are quite plentiful at this beach.

Habitat:

Most of the ones I find at this beach are around the mangroves, water grasses, and under the pier in the shade. Gulf coast beach with warm waters

Notes:

"Some colonies of this species of snail are the only mollusks known to practice fungiculture... Littoraria irrorata feeds on fungi that it encourages to grow. It creates and maintains wounds on the grass."
