Silver Y

Autographa gamma

Description:

Small moth with a wingspan of 35 mm. The wings are patterned with various shades of brown and grey providing excellent camouflage. In the centre of each forewing there is a silver-coloured mark shaped like a letter Y or a Greek letter Gamma.

Notes:

This little one was vibrating its forewings preparing for flight (hence the blurriness on the end of the wings). They were flying by the dozens nearby my lavender plant when I took this photo in the early evening.
