Bittersweet

Celastrus sp.

Description:

Bright red fruit encased in yellow pods. The pods split open during autumn when they are ripe. There weren't any leaves remaining on the plant. The fruits are poisonous to humans.

Habitat:

In a wetland habitat near a pond in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

Either Celastrus scandens or Celastrus orbiculatus?
