Waxbill; Pico de Coral

Estrilda astrild

Description:

My spotting # 15,000.
There were 3 of these visible and possibly more, in long reeds near the coast. I took them as goldfinches until I saw the pictures later, by which time they had all flown.
A Spanish resident in the extreme west, and adjacent areas in Portugal, I have not seen them on the east coast before. The bird with the black bill is a juvenile which may indicate that they are breeding in this area. The third one I saw was not identified.

Habitat:

Coastal marshes.
