The adult Eurasian coot is characterized by its white bill and white facial shield. The remainder of the bird is dark sooty grey, with the excpetion its bright red eye.
A large central European lake.Year round resident.
Breeds on lakes and slow river with generous vegetation, but also found on open water areas.

Thanks Carol! I know you do! Even though they often hang out together coots are actually not ducks. They belong to different orders and families.
