Bird's nest fungi before and after opening. Before finding these, I thought the unopened ones were an entirely different type of fungi.

Too bad. It's frustrating trying to identify some of these when there are so few good images availabale.

which have photos submitted by observers,

Thanks for the info PucaK. I looked through the list, and out of the ones listed with photos, this does not fit. I tried the checklist, but without photos I'm afraid I'll have to leave the identification up to someone who knows more than I do.

Ashley, I wanted to see some really badly too after seeing them on PN, and once I saw one, I seem to see them all over now!

This is a Cyathus sp.
Possibly this is Cyathus striata but there are other possibilities depending on size and could ultimately depend on spore size.
