White-egg Bird's nest fungus

Crucibulum laeve

Description:

These are the smallest of th bird's nest fungi I've seen - about 5 mm across. They had smooth inner walls and a rough furry exterior. Most of the "crucibles" had lost their peridioles but a few like in pic 1 had very white lentil shaped peridioles containing spores.

Habitat:

Spotted on damp leaf litter and decaying wood chips.

Notes:

Said to be the most common of bird's nest fungi.
Family: Nidulariaceae
