Wax-tailed Planthopper

Pterodictya reticulata fulgoridae

Description:

Distinguished by waxy "tail" which when broken regrows. These large leafhoppers and very distinctive. Note the lacy wings of this species.

Habitat:

Jungles of Amazonian basin in Peru. This specimen was spotted close to Laguna Quistococha near Iquitos, Peru.

Notes:

Possibly my favourite insect of the Amazon.
