Ischnura elegans
The blue-tailed damselfly, also known as Common Bluetail is a damselfly, belonging to the family Coenagrionidae (forktails). It is a small one, approx 30 mm in length, with black body bearing a sky blue patch on abdomen.
The Blue-tailed Damselfly is present in most of Europe, and a very common species, usually found in a wide range of lowland environments, with standing and slow flowing waters, including brackish and polluted waters. Here observed on shores of a pond in marshes of Prodon, a part of the complex of marshes, marshy areas and broad leaved forests on Franco-Swiss border.
The marshes of Prodon are a beautiful place, a part of the larger complex of marshes, marshy areas and broad leaved forests on Franco-Swiss border called 'Versoix marshes'. The Prodon locality is somewhat protected, and taken care off, by a local fishing association. Unfortunately, the pond and its surroundings are really dirty and there is plenty of garbage left over from parties and picnics - every time I go there, I get out with a bag full of plastic, bottles, cans and other stuff... Some cleaning is going on there from time to time, this is obvious, but I can't help but think that the majority of people are just jerks!
