Checkered Garter Snake

Thamnophis marcianus

Description:

Olive-colored body with black checkers down the back and sides. There is a thin dorsal stripe, and a white patch before the black patch on the neck (this distinguishes it from the sometimes similar looking black-necked garter).

Habitat:

Found along a rocky creek at the base of a large hill.
