Macroscytus brunneus
Balcony, attracted from surrounding countryside by night light, limestone outcrop in foothills of Los Serranos mountains.
Thanks John. These things remain near the bottom of my knowledge tree! Interesting that they were in a first floor balcony so well away from the ground, and in and around the frame of a new doorway we were putting in so they probably got in it where it was stored before it was delivered to us. May not be local to this area.
Not a beetle - it is a true bug (Hemiptera) in the family Cydnidae (burrowing bugs)
