Thanks John. These things remain near the bottom of my knowledge tree! Interesting that they were in a first floor balcony so well away from the ground, and in and around the frame of a new doorway we were putting in so they probably got in it where it was stored before it was delivered to us. May not be local to this area.

Not a beetle - it is a true bug (Hemiptera) in the family Cydnidae (burrowing bugs)
