Ensign wasp

Evania appendigaster ??

Description:

About 10mm with blue-green eyes. They are called ensign wasps because of their habit of moving their flattened abdomen like ships signalling with flags. Harmless to humans, they are predatory species of cockroach eggs. Lay their eggs inside cockroach egg cases and the larva eats the developing egg from inside and comes out as adult wasp. Play a major role in controlling population of cockroaches.

Habitat:

Spotted on a compound wall.
