Mucormycosis

Order Mucorales

Description:

Fungus growing on fungus! The mushroom appeared to have a tan cap with a white stem. It had mucormycosis, as it was heavily infected with Mucorales fungus. The fantastically fuzzy cap made identification of the host mushroom very difficult. So, my best guess on the mushroom would be that it is in the order Agaricales.

Habitat:

Growing on rotting wood in a deciduous forest.
