Calopteron sp
Lycid beetle of about 18mm body length. Comparatively small head with serrated antennae; thorax has an orange raised rim; 'shoulders' and a broad band across elytra are also orange, everything else is glossy black.
Found among low vegetation on the way to the "Rostro Maya" in San Juan La Laguna, Lake Atitlán.
In the first picture, the beetle was about to fly off, which it did, but it landed on a leaf nearby. Therefore, the location is slightly different, but the specimen is the same.
