Surucuá-variado (Surucua Trogon)

Description:

It measures between 26 and 28cm and weighs between 70 and 78g. It has head, neck and chest in metallic dark blue color and cheeks and neck in black. Presents his eyes on the dark brown color with a periocular ring in intense orange. The beak is short and robust, the stained ivory color with greenish gray shades. The lower jaw has black color in the central portion. The upper jaw ending in a small hook. The back is blue-green and turquoise becomes closer tail. On the wings, the secondary coverts are emerald green with golden highlights, the pinions are dark gray, slightly marked with a white barred. The ventral part and the Crisso are red. The tail is long and dark, with bluish tones present on the back and rump as well as a black bar at the far end. The bottom of the long tail has white feathers rectrices with two brands blackened at its base, quite visible when the bird lands. The shanks are short and how the feet are gray. They have very specific fingers that allow you to firmly grasp the branches that are perched. The first two fingers are driven back and the other two forward.

Habitat:

It inhabits forests and savannas in the south and southeast of Brazil.
