White-Banded Digger Bee

Amegilla quadrifasciata

Description:

I spotted this bee just outside my house today. It resembled the Australian Blue-banded bee in its behaviour of resting on grass by hanging on by the mouth. As you can see in the picture the eyes were a beautiful pale turquoise while the body was silvery and quite hairy. About 8 mm length overall.

Thank you Maria :) Rieko - some bees like the blue banded actually manage fine without a nest. They actually clip on to straws and grass in little groups at night time. I wonder if this one uses the same strategy..
