Aureolaria virginica
Medium to medium-tall plant with a single stem. Opposite leaves with lower ones being toothed or lobed and upper ones usually smooth but occasionally lobed. Stem and leaves covered with a fine, downy hair. Flowers are bright yellow and have fused petals in a tube shape and are produced at leaf bases. The flowers tend to attract bumble bees frequently. This plant is partially parasitic to oak trees (especially White Oak). It is considered partially or hemiparasitic because this plant also has chlorophyll and can photosynthesize.
Temperate forest bordering a man-made lake near many oak trees. Rockwood Park, Midlothian, Virginia.
