Barn Swallow

Hirundo rustica

Description:

One of the most common northern american swallows. Dark blue back and light tawny color under. Patch of rufous on forehead and a rufous throat. Tail is long and forked.

Habitat:

Loved the airfield and spent time I am guessing to get water from a nearby bucket.

Notes:

These prefered the open and abandoned airfield used now as a nature preserve for one of the largest Least Tern Colonies in Northern California.
