A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Decticus albifrons
A common robust bush-cricket in Mediterranean region, male produces that famous chirpy song. The body length is of some 5 to 6 cm, while the wings folded like in a photo add additional 2 to 3 cm to the length - I believe this is the biggest bush-cricket of the Mediterranean. Can be confused with Egyptian Grasshopper and Migratory Locust; but can be distinguished by its and long antennae. The pale face is another typical characteristic.
Native to Southern Europe and common in the Mediterranean. Here observed in urban setting close to Krka NP of Croatia. The park itself is in the place where river Krka forms a series of waterfalls and lakes; it is surrounded by a magnificent dense broad-leaved forest, and its shallow coastal waters are rich in vegetation.
