Euonymus americanus

Description:

Shrub. Approximately 4 feet tall. Fruit. A warty (spiked warts) red capsule that splits at maturity revealing, usually five, bright orange-red seeds. Approximately 1.5 cm diameter before opening; approximately 2 cm after opening.

Habitat:

Growing in mixed deciduous/pine woods

Notes:

This shrub had no leaves. Deer like to browse on Strawberry Bushes. There were just two seed capsules. These capsules were a relatively light pink; some can be dark maroon in color.
