American Caesar's Mushroom

Amanita jacksonii

Description:

Cluster of four mushrooms ranging from fully opened to bud (unopened) Largest. Cap diameter, approximately 15 cm diameter and 20 cm tall. Cap. Red in center fading to yellow at the margin, no warts; cap slightly concave with margin split. Gills yellowish-white; short gills present. Light ‘ribs’ visible on opened mushrooms extending from margin to approximately half-way to the center of the cap. Volva and annulus clearly present. Smaller, opened mushrooms. Caps convex. Bud. Approximately 4 to 5 inches tall.

Habitat:

Fruiting at the edge of deciduous woods by a rural road

Notes:

These are, by far, the largest Caesar’s Amanita mushrooms that I have ever seen.
