Caiman crocodilus
Native to much of Central and South America found in lowland wetland and riverine habitat types, and can tolerate salt water, as well as fresh.
Well, I was taking some house guests from PA on a typical south FL tour and airboat ride in the everglades when I was very surprised by this spotting, well, 2 surprises really. 1st, a very yellow crocodilian head with black spots, a color that I don't remember seeing in any of the regulars we have here. 2nd surprise was when the guide told me we had caiman living in the wild here. I had never seen one before. (Not that surprising as we have an extensive list of non-natives here). To the best of my research this is a spectacled caiman. aka. white caiman, aka. common caiman; although I didn't find any this yellow on line. I'm not sure if this is a juvenile/young coloration, or just one possible color form.
