Yellow Rat Snake

Pantherophis alleghaniensis

Habitat:

Commonly found near pinelands, hardwood hammocks, swamps, marshes, prairies, agricultural fields, and residential areas.

Notes:

This beautiful snake was hanging on the branches of a shrub in the butterfly garden of this Botanical Garden right by the path. I had never seen a snake here before and this one was a new spotting for me, so it was very exciting. It was either cold and sluggish from the night or very tame as it did not move despite a number of people taking pictures quite close to it.
