Threskiornis molucca
Black head, eye and long decurved beak, white body, long greyish legs. Unmistakable, common and a fun part of the parks of Sydney!
Eastern Australia and all along the north and west coast. This one was seen in the Sydney Botanical Gardens, where there are many of them. Besides Sydney parks, they can also be seen in wetlands, pastures, tidal flats, and garbage dumps.(tips if you are in Australia!)
"On the Edge"! I enjoyed watching this Australian White Ibis drinking from the stream while perched on a small log that was about to go over the falls and under the bridge. One of many Ibis photos I took while in Sydney. They just kept posing!

Sad to hear that , Mark.
I felt that Australia is one of the nations with most sanity.
You might be very shocked at how much has been lost to human activity Hema. The rate of species extinction here is unmatched anywhere else. The environmental demand to support expected lifestyles collides badly with a unique and fragile eco system. If you want to see the few tiny original bits you had better hurry as our current leader is talking about selling those out too.
can see the water dribbling down it's beak.
There is so much of Australia to be explored! i wonder if the insides have been thoroughly scrutinized.i would love to be there . I am sure it could be very challenging though.
Thanks Mark and Malcolm! I have a huge backlog of spottings to post someday.....in the meantime, I am taking every opportunity I have to make the backlog bigger!:)
Congratulations on your #500 Kathleen. Nice poser!
It seems we saw just one in a Sydney park but not in the Botanical Gardens http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/556...
Very photogenic birds. Congrats on 500!
