"A bright spot in forest shade, this beautiful Hart's Tongue Fern (Asplenium scolopendrium) is our Spotting of the Day. Better known as an ornamental plant, Asplenium scolopendrium grows wild in Europe and North America. This plant is unusual for ferns in that it has simple, undivided fronds. Scolopendra (through Latin from Greek σκολόπενδρα, skolopendra) is a genus of centipedes, and the epithet for this fern species (scolopendrium) refers to the pattern of its spores producing structures' resemblance to a centipede's legs".
