Nankeen/Rufous Night Heron (juvenile)

Nycticorax caledonicus

Description:

Juvenile Nankeen Night Herons "are heavily spotted and streaked grey-brown. The bill is grey-black with yellowish cutting edges. The eyes are yellow, the bare facial skin is yellow-olive and the legs and feet lime-green to olive-grey." (https://birdssa.asn.au/birddirectory/nan... )

Habitat:

Waiting on the rocks at the Waste Water Wetlands.

Notes:

First time seeing a juvenile!!! Initially my mum and I thought this was a Striated Heron (Butorides striata) but decided to get an expert onto it. When we were told it was a juvenile Nankeen Night Heron, both of us were like...oh yeah, saw an adult here about two weeks ago...cool! Identified by Warden at BBO.
