New Zealand Tui

Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae

Description:

Medium song bird, Black body and wings, but with multicolour sheens in different light, from dark green to purple and multi shades in between. Head is a black to dark green. Has white feathered collar and quite a large white wattle under the chin.

Habitat:

Seen in rural garden.

Notes:

Not usually seen on the ground, or eating fruit, these are nectar eaters and usually stick to flowers of all kinds, but it was a tough winter. These photos are a little rough as they were taken through glass.

They still show the bird quite clearly! I do love the honeyeaters :)
