Boletellus obscurecoccineus
This attractive bolete had a cap of about 70 mm across. It was a deep red in colour, The stipe was also of the same colour but faded to a paler shade near the cap. the pore surface would have been a bright yellow but this mushroom was old and the pore surface was discoloured and pitted.
Spotted amongst leaf debris in a dry sclerophyll eucalyptus forest.
These boletes have a relatively long stipe. They are widespread in eucalypt forests but are not common.
