Giant Stick Insect (video)

Carausius morosus

Description:

Never seen a larger stick insect. It was resting with its first two legs extended so that it looked as if it had only four legs. Later, all six legs became apparent. Still later, it loosened its hold on the wall and fell on a bag of organic manure; got the video too. In the last photo you can see my finger next to it ....for comparison.

Habitat:

Wall facing the outer boundary of the resort at Borong, Sikkim. It was late evening and dark.

Notes:

Video: https://youtu.be/LP7M1y4ycX8 Extra info: http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/an... According to http://sikenvis.nic.in/writereaddata/cha... only four species under three genera and two families namely Phasmidae and Diapheromeridae are known from the state
