American Toad

Anaxyrus americanus

Description:

This toad had interesting coloring - kind of like an old bruise that was fading to green and yellow. It was about 7 cm long. It had a small twig stuck to the right side of its head ;P

The coloring and pattern is variable in this species. Their skin color can change depending on habitat, humidity, stress, and temperature. Its parotoid glands were the same color as the surrounding skin.

Habitat:

Habitat: Spotted in a mostly coniferous forest along the coast
