Thread-legged assassin bugs

Stenolemus

Description:

Golden colored assassin of spiders..with red eyes to match!! About 15mm long. These are very specialized hunters of spiders. They move along the spider's web and lure the spiders to them by imitating the spider's prey. Once the spider is within range they quickly pierce the spider's body with their mouth part and inject a venom that liquefies the spider from within. Then they proceed to drink this liquid.

Habitat:

Spotted slowly moving on the web of a Longjawed Orbweaver (Tetragnatha).

Notes:

On the second picture the stabbing mouth part could be seen.
