Flower Chafer

Poecilopharis flavens

Description:

Beetle of about 23mm. Yellow in colour with dark red/brown symmetrical markings that form a letter 'M' on thorax. A spine can be seen between the 2nd and 3rd pairs of legs.

Habitat:

Found hiding among leaves after a rainstorm in coastal tropical vegetation in the Pango area, outside of Port Vila.

Notes:

Apparently this species can be a pest in Vanuatu, where it damages palm trees, including those of commercial coconut growers.

Scarabaeidae, Cetoniinae, Schizorhinini, Poecilopharis flavens, endemic of Vanuatu. Nice one! I waste 30 minutes by looking for Cetonine of Thailand, not relizing this one is from Oceania...
